Level 1 Project Submission Altenew Educator Certification Program

I have made it to the Level 1 Project Submission. This journey has been awesome so far. I have learned so much and am enjoying this hobby even more. For this project “the requirements were as follows:

1. Select 3 components from the Classes in Level 1 and explain the components that you have chosen for the project.
2. Create “His” and “Her” gift sets. Each set should have a cohesive theme. Each set should have a minimum of 4 cards each.
3. Create a blog post with a minimum of 10 photos as a tutorial.
4. Create packaging for each set with a recyclable element.

MASCULINE CARDS

For the masculine cards I used components from the For the Guys, Irresistible Inking Techniques, and Seasonal Scene Building classes. The For the Guys class brought out some good tips on geometric and and scene building. I like the way that you can use squares, triangles and rectangles and create different images. There is literally no end to the ways you can change a card with inks, layering, and just a little inking. However, my favorite was the scene building class. For me I tend to look beyond a card and tell a story, and the ways to create different scenes are a lot of fun, especially sky layers. For this project I struggled a little for ideas because masculine cards are a little difficult for me. When I looked at some of the previous participants cards I was totally intimidated. I wanted something very different, but was starting to really think I couldn’t come up with ideas. I use a lot of Tim Holtz stamps and media, and tried to come up with something to combine the two companies.

Welcome to the Altenew meets Steam Punk/Industrial. With this theme in mind, I was able to come up with some masculine cards that are very different, and vibrant. Overall, I was pleased with the outcome.

The common component on the cards was using the Tim Holtz foil tape with the industrial and steam punk embossing folders and using Altenew Stamps and Dies for different layouts. I used a grey cardstock for all of them. The color scheme of blues and greens were used in all of the cards.

I used the Ranger Alcohol Inks: Gold Mixative, Sunshine Yellow, Sailboat Blue, Denim, Stream, Pool, Mojito, Turquois, Sunset Orange, and Sublime.

I used the Altenew Inks: Sapphire, Eastern Sky, Spiced Marmelade, Lucky Clover, and Mustard Seed.

I also used Hero Arts Unicorn pigment ink for the stars in the sky. There was quite a lot of buildup of inks for the sky, so the unicorn ink seemed to soak up the color and gave a subtle look to the stars.

For my first card I used the Altenew Monogram Letter “W”.

I embossed the foil tape with the embossing folder and colored using the alcohol inks. The one thing about alcohol inks is you can layer till you get the color you want. This took about 30 minutes, alternating with blowing the ink with an ink blower to stamping with a piece of felt. I let dry overnight, and put the card together.

Using some sparkle paper and the Large “W” from the die, I used alcohol inks again for the “W”. I used some foam on the back of the “W” to give some dimension. I stamped a Thank You sentiment to a scrap piece of navy cardstock and embossed with Altenew Gold powder. I then added to a navy background and adhered to grey cardstock.

The next card was one of my favorites. The Altenew Mountain Die set allowed me to use the same techniques as the card above, but create a Scenebuilder card.

I used the embossing folder on the foil tape to create the background. It was easier to tape each of the die cut mountains to the foil in order to cut them out. Taping the dies down also helped to keep it from moving while die cutting. Using alcohol inks I colored the die cut mountains each a different color.

After blending the top part of the sky, I adhered the mountain pieces to the card base.

Using the Hero Arts stamp of stars and unicorn ink, I stamped, dried, and added some holographic stars to the sky.

I heat embossed a Thinking of You tag, and adhered to the card. I love the colors in this card.

The next card I used some tips from the geometric section of the For the Guys class, and used the Altenew One Day At A Time stamp.

The One Day at a Time Stamp from Altenew is one of my favorites. It has a marbled look. I also really like the sentiments with this set. It took awhile to arrange the squares. A little washi tape provided a frame. I think the arrow added a little dimension.

The next card was pretty fun to put together. I used the Altenew Layered Cupcake Stamp. I had to play around with the layering in the beginning, but it came together pretty well. I was able to use some bling for a little sparkle.

The background was the same technique as the other cards, and I used a Tim Holtz Circuit stencil for the electrical portion. I like the color combination of the Mojito Alcohol Ink vs. the Sapphire Ink. On the back of the cupcake I used some foam squares to give it a little dimension and put some sparkles on the frosting.

Not only was this fun to do, but it was fairly easy. Again, I adhered it to a grey card base. The Happy Birthday was die cut out of gold cardstock.

The last card for the masculine project was done with another scene building theme. I used one of my favorite stamp sets, Altenew Wanderlust. I also added the Altenew Polar Bear die.

This card had so many changes, I forgot to take pictures. I ink blended the colors to represent late afternoon. I then remembered I had not done the foil tape, so I embossed and colored the sky using the alcohol Ink. I used both the mountain stamp with black ink. Then used the trees stamp in green. I used a gold sparkly cardstock for the bear. Added the sentiment, and used some holographic gems for the sky. Attached the background to a navy cardstock and adhered to the grey card base.

So, that is it for the masculine cards, now on to the feminine cards. Overall, this set of cards pushed me to think out of the box. I really enjoyed working on these, and I’m pretty happy with the way they turned out. Hope you like them also.

FEMININE CARDS

For the feminine cards I used components from the Clean and Simple Boutique Cards, Irresistible Inking Techniques, and All about Layering classes. These classes were great in showing ways to use the stamps to layer (I have been really frustrated with not being perfect when layering stamps), but this class was a help. I love clean and simple cards, but also like vibrant and color filled cards. This class allowed another way to get simple with a clean background.

I was drawn to the below color pallet, so all of my cards have some or all of these colors.

The common component on the cards was using a white background, Altenew Stamps and Dies for different layouts in the florals. I tried to achieve a light airy flow. The irresistible inking techniques helped me create some different backgrounds. I like using different medias.

The colors were Altenew Orange Cream, Autumn Glaze, Forest Glades and Limeade. Gina K Honey Mustard, Wild Dandelion, and Sweet Mango.

The first card for the feminine section of this project is using the Altenew Tree Peony Stamp set.

I started by stamping on Neena White the outline stamp. I then embossed in gold. I used the next layer stamp which colored a portion yellow. After another layer of a darker color, I stamped the leaves and placed under the flower which had some foam to give some dimension.

I gold embossed the smaller leaves put them under the flower. I used some clear irredescent gems and adhered the sentiment.

The next card was made using the Coneflower Stamp set. One of my favorites. So many ways to use.

To create the background, I inked up my glass mat with a Gina K Ink and mixed some paste. I used a stencil and applied the paste and let it dry.

The next card I tried use a couple of elements together for the background and I used the coneflower stamp again. The first go around, I didn’t care for the color, so I did it again with the previous Gina K Ink and did a partial ink of the dots, so more of the white would show.

Not only did I ink up the coneflower, but I used some copics. I propped them up with some foam squares and added some gems and a sentiment.

The next card was created using the Dandelion Wishes stamp.

I used Altenew’s Autumn Blaze ink to stamp the dandelion and Evergreen for the stem.

I had a different frame in mind. But in the end I chose something else. I used Gina K Inks with a brush and layered on each other to make a frame. These brushes I like and feel it layers better than other things I have tried. I adhered the Dandelion card to the frame and put on a white cardstock.

My last card is my favorite. Probably because I love orchids, and they layered so well.

I used a stencil to barely give some lines with a light yellow. I taped the stencil down and partially blended the color.

I then stamped the vase and colored the water. I put some Studio Katia clear gems in the the bottom of the base to look like glass.

I layered and cut the orchids and leaves. Constructed the card and stamped the sentiment.

The last part of this project is to use a recyclable item to give cards as a gift. I had some plastic boxes I received some other cards in. Since I wanted a clean looking element to give the cards as a gift I used those boxes, and made a small tag, and used some ribbon to secure.

Overall this was a good project to do. A lot of thinking and stressing was part of the process, but in the end I am happy with the results.
